MEET OUR EXPERT: KATE SHIRAH


Kate Shirah, founder and principal of Alignmeant Consulting, brings 29 years of leadership to organizational, community, and systems-change efforts focused on building the capacity of nonprofits, improving people’s lives, and developing community assets. In her work with nonprofits, she brings her perspective gained through a variety of roles with nonprofit organizations: as an executive director, a volunteer, a board director, a funder, and a consultant. Her approach assures that values, people, and practice are carefully aligned with purpose. Kate received her certificate in nonprofit board consulting from BoardSource in 2021.

In addition to her consulting work, Kate currently serves as the part-time executive director for a family foundation. She earned both her master’s in public health and her bachelor’s degree in health policy and administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

If you spend time with Kate, you’ll notice her guiding belief that relationships are core to building better, stronger organizations and communities. Finally, Kate is most relaxed when she’s in the sun, spending time with her dogs, or enjoying great conversation with her favorite people.
