Meet our Experts:
Angie Bush
Angie graduated with her B.S. in Business Economics from Florida A&M University in 1991. She began her career in banking but departed from that to start a family. During the work hiatus, Angie started a preschool mom’s group at her church, ran various school committees, and served as PTA President at her children’s elementary and middle schools. After several corporate moves, a job opportunity for her husband, Howard, brought the family of five from Cleveland, OH to Charlotte, NC.
She began her non-profit career in 2006 when she became the Administrative Assistant at Hospitality House of Charlotte (HHOC). Angie was quickly promoted to Business Manager and assisted HHOC through the capital campaign, building, and relocation to its current facility. Upon move-in, Angie added operational policies and procedures and managed facility operations. In 2016, she was promoted to Finance Director.
Angie has been with HHOC through management changes and has served twice in the Interim Director role. Her most recent period as Interim Executive Director concluded in 2018 with her appointment as Executive Director. To ensure Angie is operating at the top of her profession, she earned her Professional Fundraising Certification at Boston University in 2021 to help HHOC secure significant financial support for years to come. To date, Angie has served Hospitality House for more than seventeen years.
Dedicated to community service, in 2016, Angie and her husband seeded funding for The Green & White Scholarship at Ohio University. That fund has since become The Emergency Microgrant Fund, which awarded $76,220 in grants last school year - ensuring that a financial crisis during a full-time student’s tenure will not derail degree acquisition. In Charlotte, Angie was a Friedland Foundation mentor. The Foundation’s fund instills hope of a college education in middle-school students burdened with socioeconomic disadvantages. Angie mentored a middle-school student through high school, and the young lady is now a recent college graduate. Angie currently serves on the Membership Committee of the Women’s Impact Fund (a collective giving circle), as Secretary and an Executive Committee member on the Apparo Board of Directors, and as co-chair of the Healthcare Hospitality Network’s Advocacy & Awareness Committee.
When Angie is not working, you may find her planning international vacations, laughing with family and friends, catching a great podcast, or reading.
Karen Banks
Karen Banks graduated from San Francisco State University with a B.S. in Psychology and minor in Marketing, and then from the University of San Francisco with a Master of Science in Organizational Development. At Family House, she started as a Volunteer Coordinator in 2012 and moved through various management roles. In September 2019, she became the Chief of Community Engagement and focuses on building strategic partnerships. Karen also has experience in HR roles, Marketing Research and Project Management. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and has a personal goal of visiting all 7 continents (she is at 5 so far!). Karen’s greatest personal achievement to date was summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro in 2022.
Toni Moore
In 2004, Toni and her long-time friend, Brooke Gage, founded Philos Hospitality, Inc . Based on Biblical hospitality, this organization provides lodging, meals, prayer support, and transportation assistance for patients and caregivers through their Hospitality House of Tulsa program. Toni’s personal experience with her own family’s medical crisis, combined with her 15-year career in healthcare administration, and her passion to study biblical hospitality has equipped Toni to inherently know and understand the needs of families in medical crisis.
Toni has served as a board member for the Healthcare Hospitality Network which supports over 180 hospital hospitality houses nationwide through education, networking, and certification. In 2019 she led an International Review Board (IRB) approved Healthcare Hospitality Impact study, with over 2,200 participants from 18 states, measuring the impact on the caregiver and patient in areas of physical health, mental health, spiritual health, and financial health.
In 2022, Philos Hospitality launched their newest program, Lodgingly, which provides deeply discounted hotel rooms near hospitals, restaurant discounts, prayer support, access to local transportation and local pet boarding for patients and families who travel for medical care.
Toni was recognized by the Journal Record as Oklahoma’s Most Admired CEO for 2021 and 50 Women Making a Difference in 2021. Toni would tell you one of the accomplishments she is most proud of is Hospitality House of Tulsa’s 17 Year Anniversary which was August 24, 2022. In the past 17 years more than 8,100 families from all 77 counties in Oklahoma, 48 states and 9 countries have had a home away from home at Hospitality House of Tulsa. Toni and her husband Clay have been married for 35 years and have two grown children.
